Angela Rayner, Labour’s Shadow Education Secretary, today joined Gillian Troughton, Labour’s candidate for Copeland, to meet parents and teachers from the Whitehaven Academy Action Group.
Gillian Troughton, Labour’s candidate for Copeland, said:
“Students, parents and teachers at Whitehaven Academy have been let down for too long by this Tory Government.
“The Tories scrapped Labour plans for a new school building, they forced through the academisation of the school and then refused a refurbishment again in 2015.
“Our children only have one chance to get a good education and the situation at Whitehaven academy is unacceptable. The Tory Government needs to sort this out.”
Angela Rayner, Labour’s Shadow Education Secretary, said:
“The Tories have repeatedly failed people here and it is just not good enough.
“There are serious questions to be answered about how this Trust has lost the confidence of the local community so badly. The Tory Government needs to urgently look at what can be done to resolve the situation.”
