Gillian Troughton, our candidate for the Copeland by-election, along with Durham MP Kevan Jones, visited James Fisher Nuclear Ltd, to show her support for the nuclear industry in Copeland, no ifs, no buts.
After a tour of the facilities Gillian met with union members to discuss their concerns over Tory threats to Sellafield pensions and the Government’s shambolic handling of Moorside.
Gillian Troughton said: “I’m visiting this company today to show my complete support for the nuclear industry in Copeland. No ifs, no buts.
“I’ve met with unions today to talk about the shameless Tory pilfering of Sellafield workers’ pensions. The Tories are literally taking money out of the people’s pockets.”
Moorside and the thousands of jobs that come with it are hanging in the balance due to Tory inaction and uncertainty. When Theresa May was repeatedly asked during her flying visit to Copeland whether she would throw her support behind Moorside, she ducked questions and refused to give the assurances people are crying out for.
“People of Copeland want answers. Labour would guarantee investment for Moorside to secure long-term jobs for the area.”
Kevan Jones MP, said:
“I’ve seen first-hand in Durham just what the Tories can do to a community when given free reign and the Sellafield pensions could just be the start. Only a vote for Labour would ensure an MP that would fight for workers’ rights.”
